Every SEO tool sells you a bigger index. Rank trackers, crawlers, log analyzers, AI visibility dashboards — they all compete on how much they can store. None of them can tell you which of last quarter’s forty changes is the reason traffic moved in March. That gap is the whole job, and it is where we decided to build.

Search is slow in a way product teams are not used to. You ship a title rewrite on a Tuesday. The ranking report still looks like last month. Finance asks why sessions dipped. Someone opens a dashboard, picks the nearest named event — a core update, a deploy, a campaign — and writes the narrative around it. The actual cause is often a quieter edit from six weeks ago that finally got recrawled.

Lag is not a bug in the data. It is the shape of the work.

What a calendar has to hold

A useful change calendar is not a deploy log with prettier colors. It has to hold content edits, template changes, redirects, crawl policy, and the days Google actually saw them. It has to sit next to Search Console and analytics without pretending those systems share a clock.

When those dates line up, the story changes. You stop asking “what happened this week?” and start asking “which of the things we already did is showing up now?” That is a different product than another rank graph.

Why we built Lunar Buoy this way

We are not trying to replace your crawler or your BI stack. We are trying to make the slow feedback loop honest. Tag a change. Watch it against queries, pages, and AI answers. Wait on purpose instead of inventing causality.

If that sounds quieter than the rest of the SEO toolkit, it is. The lag is the product.
