GEO is not a rebrand of SEO

Answer engines changed the click. They did not change the need to know which of your pages got cited, and after which edit.

Generative engine optimization is being sold as a new discipline with a new stack. Most of the work is still the same: make a page that answers the question, keep a history of what you changed, and measure whether you showed up.

What is new is the click. An AI overview can take the session without taking the ranking. A citation can mention you without sending a visit. If you only watch position, you will congratulate a page that nobody opened.

Keep one calendar

Do not stand up a second dashboard for “GEO” that forgets the deploy. Put AI visibility on the same timeline as Search Console and the changes you actually made. The question is still “what did we do, and what happened after?”

The acronym can change. The attribution problem does not.
