GSC still cannot tell you if an AI Overview took the click

Impressions without a click used to mean a bad snippet. Now they might mean the answer ran above you.

Search Console will show you queries, pages, impressions, clicks, and position. It will not show you the overview. You are left inferring a new SERP feature from a click-through rate that fell while position held still.

That inference is useful if you treat it as a flag, not a proof. Pair it with a SERP sample, with session data, and with the dates you changed the page. Otherwise you will “optimize the snippet” for a result that no longer needs your snippet.

Watch clicks per impression on queries that still look healthy. Watch which URLs lose sessions in the same week the overview appears. Then put those dates on the calendar next to the copy you actually shipped.
